Formed in Belgrade in late 1963, were pioneers of the "electric music" scene in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. They took their name from a 1958 film, Black Pearls , which focused on juvenile delinquents. By 1967, they had gained significant notoriety by winning the Gitarijada festival at the Belgrade Fair.

While contemporary critics gave the EP mixed reviews, it cemented Crni Biseri's reputation as a top-tier act in the Belgrade scene. The band was rare among their 1960s peers for surviving through the 1970s, eventually releasing their only full studio album, Motorok , in 1976 before disbanding in 1980.
