Because Final Fantasy VI splits into two distinct halves (The World of Balance and The World of Ruin), many items and characters are permanently missable: Final Fantasy VI has one of the largest casts in the series

At the end of the Floating Continent (World of Balance), you will be given a countdown timer to escape. You must choose to wait at the airship jump point until the timer hits 0:05 seconds. If you leave without him, Shadow dies permanently. You must choose to wait at the airship

Your thief. Pro-tip: Equipping him with the Brigand's Glove turns his "Steal" command into "Mug", allowing him to deal damage and steal at the same time.

Highly useful in the early game. Buy his "Tools" (like the AutoCrossbow and NoiseBlaster) in Figaro Castle to wipe out mobs for zero MP.
