The first series of the BBC sitcom (2019) follows Mike and Alison Cooper, a cash-strapped young couple who unexpectedly inherit the crumbling Button House from a distant relative. To their surprise, the estate is teeming with historical ghosts who are determined to haunt them out to avoid the house being turned into a busy hotel. Series 1 Premise
: Desperate for money, Mike and Alison rent the house to a film crew making a period drama, causing chaos for the ghosts.
After inheriting the estate, the resident ghosts—ranging from a caveman to a disgraced 1990s politician—attempt to scare the couple away. This culminates in the ghost Julian pushing Alison out of a window. Following a two-week coma and a near-death experience, Alison returns to the house only to find she can now see and hear every ghost on the property. The first series consists of six episodes:
