By 1945, over 15,000 Ju 88s had been built. It served on every front and in almost every conceivable role. While it could not save Germany from defeat, it earned a reputation as one of the most versatile and effective combat aircraft ever designed.
As the war progressed, the Ju 88 proved to be a lethal maritime strike weapon. Equipped with torpedoes and advanced search radar, specialized Ju 88 units took a heavy toll on Allied shipping.
