The story follows (Omar Sharif), a world-renowned professional gambler and European playboy. He travels to Las Vegas to assist a friend, Madelaine Calvert (Hope Lange), whose ownership of the Caesar's Palace hotel and casino is under threat from a hostile business syndicate.
The conflict culminates in a high-stakes, "winner-take-all" card game against a wealthy businessman to decide the fate of the casino. Along the way, Louis becomes entangled with a mysterious woman, (Victoria Principal), who appears to have her own hidden agenda.
