While Senfter's original version was a gritty, underground techno track, it was a remix that truly exploded. (the Italian producer Cristiano Giusberti) created a version with a driving "four-to-the-floor" beat and a chanting vocal hook.

The song's iconic melody wasn't originally written for a techno club. It was sampled from a track called by David Whittaker, which featured in the 1984 Commodore 64 game Lazy Jones . In 1999, German producer Florian Senfter (aka Splank!) of Zombie Nation used the SID chip sound from the game to create "Kernkraft 400".
