The story of Arata Kangatari (Arata: The Legend) begins with a fateful cross-dimensional swap between two boys named Arata. Hinohara Arata, a bullied high school student from modern Japan, finds himself suddenly transported to the mythical world of Amawakuni. Meanwhile, Arata of the Hime clan, a boy on the run after being falsely accused of a crime, ends up in modern Tokyo. Hinohara must take up the mantle of a "Sho" (a divine warrior) and wield a powerful Hayagami sword to restore peace to a land torn apart by betrayal and political strife.
